The Curriculum
The purpose of the curriculum is encapsulated in the four capacities - to enable each young person to be a successful learner, a confident individual, a responsible citizen and an effective contributor.
We are confident that our specialised curriculum meets all the individual needs of our students.

Pastoral Care
The Courtyard School is a supportive community where individualized pastoral care and tailored education plans empower students to thrive academically and personally. Our dedicated team fosters well-being, helping each student build a fulfilling life.
Curriculum Vision
Our vision for The Courtyard School is for all our students to experience, enjoy and thrive a broad skills-based curriculum.
Curriculum Design
The Courtyard School curriculum broadly follows 4 key pathways that are crafted to enable and maximise learning potential and independence. Our extensive knowledge and understanding of each and every student allows us to select the pathway that will best support student progress.
Personal Development
At the Courtyard Islington, we believe that personal development is the key to a successful, safe and active life in the community.
Safeguarding
When a child is in school, the school is responsible for keeping them safe from harm and abuse. Here at the Courtyard, we work tirelessly to create a safe learning environment, identify children who are suffering from or may be at risk of harm and take suitable action.
Maths Mastery
Mastering maths means pupils of all ages acquiring a deep, long-term, secure and adaptable understanding of the subject. Achieving mastery means acquiring a solid enough understanding of the maths that’s been taught to enable pupils to move on to more advanced material.
Work Experience
The Courtyard provides young people with the opportunity to put their skills and knowledge into action through personalised work experience placements. This hands-on approach is vital in transitioning from education to rewarding employment.
Careers
Our Careers Programme is designed to provide guidance, access to information, and career counselling to help students make informed decisions for the future. Our programme aligns with the CDI Career Development Framework and the Gatsby Benchmarks, meeting national standards for careers guidance.
Pupil Premium
The aim of the allocation of additional Pupil Premium funding is to support the development and progress of all students whilst reducing the gap between the achievements of disadvantaged pupils and their peers.
Enriching Educational Visits
The Courtyard Islington places great value on the benefits of external educational experiences. Staff, in conjunction with students, make links with many organisations in our local area to enrich the learning experiences of our students.
